AFTER being required to slow to a stop under Sunday afternoon’s red flag conditions, the Mojo team, raced by Nissan touring car drivers Rick and Todd Kelly, with dad John and mate Gerry Atkins, declared that they’d return in 2018.
‘‘We’re going to have to come back now,’’ Todd said as the skier helped to steer the boat onto the trailer towards the pits.
The Kellys and Atkins made their way to the pit area in a much quieter mood following the call to halt the race on Sunday afternoon due to multiple incidents along the course.
‘‘It was a good weekend (overall),’’ John — Kelly senior and observer — said in regard to the team’s President’s Dash and 5.2-Litre expert runs.
‘‘We would’ve beaten our record by 10.5 minutes,’’ he added.
Mojo cleaned up in the 5.2-Litre class last year in a time of 42:08mins, four minutes shy of the record set by Monopoly in 2014.
‘‘On Saturday we were down on power due to the heat,’’ John said.
‘‘It wasn’t great.’’
Nevertheless, the Kelly gang would not surrender to the Murray River yet.
‘‘This baby’ll keep on going,’’ John said of Mojo.
