Saw them at the start line

February 13, 2017

Chelsea, Taylor and Kobe Beck were at the 2017 Southern 80 start line at Torrumbarry Weir on Sunday.

WITH all the attention on this year’s Southern 80 finish line, the Beck family were more than happy to be at the Torrumbarry Weir start line on Sunday.

Chelsea Beck from Pakenham had been coming to the Southern 80 for 40 years and is now joined by her family.

She was at the start line to support her nephew Jett Edwards, 12, in his first Southern 80 race, racing behind Floor-It in the 60mph class.

Her daughter Taylor and son Kobe were also there to cheer on the team and for the it was the nerves and excitement of the competitors which brought them to the finish line.

‘‘We usually go to a different spot along the Murray river each year,’’ Chelsea said.

‘‘We’ve been to the finish line before, but this year we chose the start line and love it.’’

Taylor agreed and said it was great to see all the boats in the one place — and it didn’t cost to see it.

‘‘You always get a kick out of seeing all the teams,’’ she said.
